Doug getting his head examined for not going to the Cinesation

When the Clouds Roll by (1919)
Director: Victor Fleming
Cast: Douglas Fairbanks, Ralph Lewis
Hollywood's original action hero, Douglas Fairbanks becomes the unwitting subject of Dr. Metz, who is secretly intent on driving Doug mad through hypnotic experiments.  The best on screen nightmare brought on by ferocious indigestion is just part of the special effects loaded into this film.
Of course there's a girl, a huge misunderstanding, Doug's job on the line and plenty of frantic racing around before the colossal finale.
Designed as a "cheer 'em up film" following the dark days of WW1, this is a wildly energetic and fanciful comedy, that is truly life-affirming.

Cast: W.C. Fields, Joan Marsh, Buster Crabbe
A hard-drinking, socially-awkward inventor wrecks his daughter's chances of marriage into a rich family and bungles his own chances of success by selling one of his more practical
inventions, a bullet-proof tire.  Although W.C. Fields drank immoderately on and off camera, he rarely played a scene in which he appeared pie-eyed drunk. The major exception can be found in this title .

Stage Struck (1917)
For this Fine Arts production Dorothy comes to New York to become an actress.  The stagestruck girl marries a man while on tour. Their bus gets stranded when the bogus manager is arrested.
It wouldn't be Massillon without a Gish title and this year it's time for Dorothy to take her turn.
The good news is the Library of Congress has the only print in existence.
The bad news is it's missing the first reel.
We've chosen to show it because that's what we do.  Print provided by Library of Congress

Midnight at the old mill (1916)
Director: Lloyd Hamilton
Ham and Bud star in this short comedy.
One of the freshest titles to come out of the LoC lab this year.

The Soldier and the Lady (1937)
Based on the story Michael Strogoff by Jules Verne and featuring battle footage from a French film version of the tale, this epic action-adventure follows a courageous courier of the Czar Alexander II as he struggles to deliver vital information to Russian troops fighting a losing battle against the invading Tartar hoards in Siberia. It's a straight ahead action film, adventurous, swiftly paced and blood-thirstily satisfying.
The lady in the title has practically nothing to do with it.

Grayson on Fields - shorts - outtakes etc.
Eric Grayson, the hairiest film historian, will showcase all things Fields that his time allows.  Not the common stuff either.
We are sure Dr Fields will be on call to help him.

Eric Grayson: shows us his shorts 1 hour
The most frequent comment we hear about the shorts program is this:
"I skipped it because I have one or two of them on DVD."  This happens even if we show prints that greatly excel those on DVD.  Well, we've gone to extra trouble to make sure that none of these shorts are available on video.
