Doug, a college boy aspires to become a Broadway producer. With reluctant songstress Pat 
as his star, Doug stages a big-time revue,
financed by Pat's father, a con artist. 
Then the plot gets really gets going.  
  A musical highlight is Robinson's "I'm Living in a Great Big Way," accompanied by Fat's Waller and Jeni Le Gon .

Through a series of publicity stunts he succeeds in tricking a producer to let her star in one of his lavish productions. Once a star, she thanks him by showing him the door and fooling around with the producer. The second time around, he gets his way.

The Michigan Kid (1928)

Jimmy Cowan leaves home as a young boy to seek his fortune in Alaska so that he may marry his childhood sweetheart. He becomes known as the Michigan Kid, a notoriously lucky gambler and proprietor of a gambling hall. When he loses at gambling and shoots the dealer, plans change quickly.

Alice Faye makes her film debut in this rousing backstage extravaganza, an interesting assembly of Broadway revue, comic sketches, songs and dancing. Will anyone object to the implications of the "Nasty Man" song like they did 77 years ago?
Other songs and numbers include "So Nice", "Every Day's a Father's Day", "Following in the Mother's Footsteps", "Sweet and Simple", "Picking Cotton", and "The Man on the Flying Trapeze".
